SMSC at school

Culture Day

Our Culture Day was a vibrant celebration of the rich diversity within our school community, reflecting the Islamic value of appreciating the blessings of different peoples and traditions. The children wore clothing from their own cultural heritage and brought in homemade dishes to share. Through circle-time discussions, children spoke about their backgrounds, family stories, and traditions, fostering mutual respect and understanding. This event reminded us of the Qur’anic teaching that Allah created us in different nations and tribes so that we may know one another.

Bikeability

The Bikeability programme gave the children practical cycling skills. Children learned how to ride safely, navigate roads with awareness, and follow rules designed to protect themselves and others.

Health 4 Life

Through the Health 4 Life programme, children engaged in planting, cooking, and nutrition-focused activities. These hands-on experiences taught the importance of healthy living in line with the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, who encouraged balanced eating and care for the earth. Planting vegetables nurtured patience and responsibility, while cooking wholesome food emphasised gratitude for the blessings Allah provides.

Golf

Weekly golf sessions with a professional instructor allowed the children to develop physical coordination, perseverance, and focus. The sport provided opportunities to practise honesty, patience, and self-control—qualities encouraged in Islamic character building (akhlaq).

Residential Trip (Year 5 & 6)

The residential trip was a valuable opportunity for pupils to develop independence, teamwork, and resilience in a safe, supportive environment. Away from home, they worked together, overcame challenges, and supported one another—reflecting the Islamic values of brotherhood, sisterhood, and helping others. Activities encouraged gratitude for new experiences and deepened their sense of tawakkul (trust in Allah) when trying new things.

Wholesome Wisdom

In Wholesome Wisdom sessions, the children took part in team games, cooking, and planting activities designed to nurture life skills alongside good character. Team games promoted cooperation and fairness, cooking encouraged responsibility and healthy choices, and planting deepened a connection to the natural world as part of Allah’s amanah (trust) to humankind.

Cooking – Healthy Foods

Healthy cooking sessions gave children the opportunity to prepare nutritious dishes while learning about the Islamic guidance on moderation and wholesome eating. They developed practical skills, shared food with peers, and reflected on the blessing of rizq (provision) from Allah, promoting gratitude and mindfulness in everyday choices.

Aspirational Visits

Visits from the police, pharmacists, and firefighters gave pupils an inspiring insight into professions of service and responsibility. These encounters helped them appreciate the value of working for the good of the community, a principle rooted in the Islamic teaching of khidmah (service). Meeting real-life role models also encouraged pupils to set high aspirations while understanding the importance of honesty, compassion, and dedication in any career.
