Parental involvement Parent Meetings

The school holds two parent evenings annually, which provide parents with an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with their respective teachers and the Head teacher.

The school values the involvement of parents and very much sees the child’s education as a partnership between home and school. Parents are very welcome to visit the school and formal parents’ consultation will be held Insha’Allah.

Should any parent wish to see the Head Teacher we request that an appointment in person or by telephone be made through the school’s office. We will do our best to cater for all needs, Insha’Allah.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The aim of our Parent teacher association is to foster better relationships between parents and our school.

Al-Birr PTA creates a partnership, which helps the school listen to and deal with parents concerns. It also allows an opportunity for parents to learn more about the school and how to improve their children's education. The PTA may not necessarily represent the views of all parents but is an excellent forum for communication and a basis for partnership between parents and the School Insha’Allah.

Al-Birr PTA is a very good way to bring together parents, teachers and others to raise money and to support the school. It provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal. All parents and teachers can get involved even if they only have a small amount of time available.

What does a PTA do?

Act as an advisory role to the school

Organise meetings to inform parents about education issues, especially when changes are likely to take place.

Act as a medium to address parental and school concerns and make suggestions

Act as a forum to discuss major school changes

Organise fundraising events

Run social events for parents and children.

Provide support for school trips and outings and other special events.

Run and partake in after-school clubs

Although the PTA is a separate body, Al-Birr Independent School it informs and liases all activities and meetings with the Head Teacher, in order to allow the smooth running and coordination of activities.

PTA activities vary from school to school. The wider the range, the more opportunities will be available for our children. Some of what we hope for our PTA to do is listed below:

What Ofsted said about us in the latest Inspection May 2018

"Pupils achieve well in this school. Leaders have made important improvements since the

last inspection which have improved the quality of teaching and outcomes for pupils"

"Leaders have high expectations for all pupils. Leaders set demanding targets for the vast majority of pupils."

"The school’s provision for social, moral, spiritual and cultural education has many strengths. Leaders make sure that

pupils are required to represent themselves as role models of their faith, showing courtesy,

understanding and being welcoming to each other and visitors."

"Pupils have positive attitudes to learning. They told inspectors that they enjoy their lessons, find their teachers helpful and see

learning as important to their lives and career aspirations. Throughout the school, inspectors found high levels of commitment to school work.

Pupils quickly settle to their lessons and are often eager when responding to teachers’ questions."
